Children In The Water

© John Tubridy 2015

Children in the water, face down in the sea
Blowing tiny bubbles, drowning to be free
Children in the water

Children in the water, caught up in the storm
Taken by the angels, lucky to be born
Children in the water

Children from the wastelands, taken from your home
Looking for a haven, a place to call your own
Shed your tears in silence; hold your tears in vain
We don’t have the answers, no one is to blame

Children in the water, buried in the deep
Time to end the journey, time for you to sleep
Children in the water

Children in the water, fleeing from the slaughter
Someone’s son or daughter, their chance is gone forever
Children in the water

Take away your faces, do not give you a name
Keep you at distance, can’t remove the shame
Read it in the papers, see it in the news
What is there to live for, what is there to lose?

Children in the water, purified and free
Never know a better life, glad it wasn’t me
Children in the water
Children in the water
Children in the water
Children in the water
